Taiwan Aboriginal Art

Poleng

Poleng belongs to Paiwan aboriginal people. He had stared working with wood sculptures for seven years. His works took a part in many governmental exhibitions in Taiwan and awarded with outstanding honor. Distortion and totem are typical in his works. In flourishing Taiwan, we would hardly believe that how difficult life the aboriginal artists are and how they almost starved to death. Poleng is one of them. Although he is a prolific sculptor, he still needs to make a living from hunting and the struggle to get dangerous part-time work. Maybe because of these sufferings, an emotion of pity and devotion naturally comprehended into the word of his creation. You would be touchable when you take the first sight at his work.
