Taiwan Aboriginal Art

Joint Exhibition

We invited four outstanding aboriginal artists to show their works on our web site. "Emotions For Fears" is our subject of this joint exhibition. Different values and traditions are between the Taiwan aborigines and foreigners including the Dutch, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese Han colonizers. There are issues of adaptation and interaction between aboriginal society and mainstream society. Over the past century, like native peoples around the globe, Taiwan aborigines have faced the collapse of their population, territory, culture, society and language. In other words, the continuity of character, of dignity and pride in the traditional group, and of culture creativity all were destructed. Nowadays, heavy drinking and selling of young prostitute are the most frequently criticized problems common among aborigines. In psychology, "culture shock" means feeling disoriented or uncertain when exposed to an unfamiliar way of life. However, what is their true feeling? What is their heartfelt wish? We hope we try to comprehend their emotions by these works.
